Yes, I agree with you, Fiona, Mayor Baylock was wonderful last night!

The dialogue began sometime ago between the Council and Safeway. In fact, a subcommittee of Mayor Cathy Baylock and Councilwoman Ann Keigrahn was formed sometime ago and is scheduled to meet shortly. All councilmembers have had brief conversation with Safeway representatives inviting Safeway to keep the lines of communications open and positive.

Russ, for those of us who want a beautiful new Safeway, it is always encouraging to know that a councilmember is meeting with Safeway. We look forward to hearing “shortly” that Mrs. Keighran/Baylock will shortly be meeting with Safeway too.
It will be worth sitting through those council meeting just to hear some good news!

At this rate, a modern Safeway will not be built in Burlingame before Jenna Bush becomes the first female president of the U.S.

I like the idea the current council has opened dialog with Safeway and has chosen to take the path of caution. This will help prevent Safeway from building a big ugly store we will have to look at for years to come.

I would rather everyone go slow than screw this biggie up. There won’t be a second chance.

Hear! Hear!, I agree with Raymond and James. We do not need to rush into this project, but we need to ensure it is constructed correctly and benefits all of Burlingame.

This project has been going on for seven/eight years with what seemed a little more impetus just before the election! We have had Safeway’s turned-down-by-planning-commission-and-council-and-residents-Plan A and our second chance will hopefully be a new and better “This Time we Will get it Right Plan”!
I think this time it will work!
