Joseph Karp’s plans to demolish this Spanish Revival style apartment building on Chapin Avenue and replace it with a new office building in the style of the Cashin & Company offices across the street had been denied by The Planning Commission and has now been approved by The City Council on appeal. Karp’s attorney swayed the council by pointing out that the plans called for an increase in the amount of parking spaces.
Karp is the owner of many Burlingame properties. In 1975 Karp demolished the Fox theater on Burlingame Avenue to make room for The Fox Mall. Vice Mayor Joe Galligan has stated, 'He for one can’t wait to see this building go'.
