Jennifer Pfaff

Well, at least the Burlingame Avenue downtown area has the big new parking structure that has plenty of room, though Broadway will be a different story. School drop-off shenanigans have always been chaos anyhow, with double and triple parking galore, even if there are spaces nearby.

Personally, in spite the parking space losses, I think this is one of the few new California laws that makes sense. So many drivers are spaced out (or is it rude??) and pay no attention to people using crosswalks, and when turning, it's even worse.

As the newer cars become more and more sophisticated, I think too many rely on the electronics to keep them from hitting people and things, but these are far from perfect.
Everyone needs to slow down, and make eye contact with each other, too.

I agree Jen. The headline on this post may seem like I think it's a bad idea, so I should have reiterated the position I took on the post last year---daylighting is a worthwhile idea.

The minus 100 spaces is just to highlight the consequences. There are also some residential crosswalks that probably don't need the 20 feet clearance, but trying to make two categories is just too complicated.

Redzone defense

SF backpedal:

After confronting a stiff outcry from residents and elected leaders, San Francisco’s transportation agency has scrapped plans to ticket motorists who park in unmarked “daylighting” zones near crosswalks, the agency’s director said Monday.
