Some little moments occur when walking about our town just catch me the right way. Today is Washington's Birthday or President's Day--take your pick. After a spell of warm, summer-like weather the seasonal winds and chill returned. Today had mostly blue skies, light winds and an absolutely lovely string of American flags on Broadway. It was a reminder of the country and town we live in. I like it and appreciate that the city B'way BID and the Boy Scouts still do this.

These beautiful flags are installed with coordination between the Broadway Business Improvement District and the Boy's Scout Troop 156. They install the flags several times a year for different holidays. The city does not get involved.

Thank you, John. You know what happens when one assumes something. Appreciate the correction. I guess I can only give the city credit for the free parking day, right? :-)

This American Holiday Post reminds me of a recent News Article regarding BD. He was a part of the evacuation of people from Afghanistan.

The flags were very inspiring. I agree this is something special about Burlingame.

This segment of there ought to (not) be a law is noteworthy. Unless these flags were “approved by the city engineer”, the Broadway BID’s & the scouts’ brand of civil disobedience is something to be admired.
Burlingame Municipal Code
13.40.050 Parking meters and parking meter standards not to be used for certain purposes.
No person shall attach anything to or allow a bicycle, newsrack or any other article or thing to lean against a parking meter or a parking meter standard without the approval of the city engineer. (Ord. 1136 § 9, (1978))
