When your family and friends come to visit B'game you now have a new destination spot to take them downtown. And it's convenient while you wait for a table a one of the local revolving restaurants. The Historical Society has been working diligently with the developer of the old Radio Shack building (Dewey Land Corp.) to incorporate a tile mural on Hatch Lane that enlivens a really boring space. They have succeeded. Wander down the alley and check out the newest addition to the B'game scene. Here is a photo of the Historical Society board members at the Friday unveiling event that featured tasty bites from Cheese Please!, fun emcee commentary from my Voice colleague Russ Cohen who loves to give away raffle prizes (nice fedora) and about 75 of the movers and shakers in B'game. #greetingsfromburlingame is the placeholder in the non-Voice social media, but why bother with that when you can see and discuss it here?

Thanks for the shout-out, Joe. This is a new gem in Burlingame, made possible by lots of volunteer hours, and generous funding by Dewey Land Co.

In case you missed it in the Merc, John Horgan has done a quick history of B'game's beginnings and the move to get a bust of Dear Old Anson into the library. You can read it here:

Seems to be 2 tiles missing.I hope it wasn't vandalism?
Posted by: It Don't Come Easy | July 29, 2018 at 10:11 AM
Nope --no vandalism. Two sky blue tiles (only two!) were broken during installation (from nearly 3,200 pieces.) They were very carefully glued together for the unveiling so that the work would look perfect. The actual replacements take several weeks to replicate and are color matched, so those two had to come out and be sent back to Florida where they are produced and fired. Eventually the new ones will be complete and glued back in-- but yeah, I hope vandals respect the work and leave it pristine.

Some of my neighbors told me they want to have this as their Christmas card. Great idea. If you do, don't forget to #greetingsfromburlingame.
Thank you Don Donoughe for the design and countless hours devoted to the mural. You are the best!

Wowowow!!! Guys, dynamite job!! As you all know, Bruce Dickinson is steeped in cumulative knowledge of art and design, and I gotta tell ya, this mural is what I call an instant classic!
Captures the essence of Burlingame in a beautiful and timeless way! I love love love the tiles! Also great job getting a developer to really contribute to the community for change. I hope our elected and city officials are taking very good notes!
