In today's edition, the Daily Post thought this incident was important enough to have its own article written and so do I. I quote parts of it here:
A man said he was beaten and robbed at knifepoint in Burlingame by a group of men, police said yesterday. A 45 year-old man from San Bruno was walking on the 1400 block of Howard Avenue at 2:49 am Friday after going to a bar on California Drive, police said. He was approached by six men who asked if he was part of a gang, said Sgt. Shepley.
The group stole the victim's wallet and iPhone and then ran away. The six men were all described as wearing black pants and black-hooded sweatshirts, according to police. Three were said to be black and the other three white.
The bars have to close by 2am I think and only a few are open that late. Be watchful out there.
Good reason for downtown retail shopping streets to have advertised camera surveillance.
I've been robbed at gun point in a different city and the camera was a major leveraging point that got me out of the situation with no money or watch taken.
Also, per my suggestion in the past, bars should be aloud to stay open late, but after...10:00pm each patron should be required to run their license through an ID photo machine, which would create better accountability.

If you are out at 2:49AM Saturday morning(2:49-really?)then you need to be aware that things like this can happen.
To be honest, the whole story sounds like BS to me.

Who knows BS better than you?

I'm curious mystery Holley, do you think the mugging was a hoax or just that it sucked that it happened?
There is plenty of criminal/felony activity in Burlingame and many other Bay Area cities.
The thugs came to Burlingame cause they figured that the guy would be wearing a Rolex, but they're obviously not from Burlingame or anything like it.
I had 2 attempted armed robberies perpetrated against me in another city. They were indeed after my Rolex and yep on the third attempt, the thugs got it.
Don't forget the street fight that occurred a couple years ago by The Post Office where a guy got stabbed.
Yeah, let's have all cities require the identification of you're hanging out. And, we should all work to send the message that the thugs wont be tolerated in Burlingame and other similar cities. Whether the thug is toting a real knife or just one to stab their neighbors in the back of they hold a different political or religious belief.
Do we think that thuggery is cool or ok cause they weren't born into a wealthy family? Is that an excuse for thuggery?
Or, is thuggery ok if its in the name of your political party?
Each neighbor collectively makes the neighborhood. Love thy neighbor. Crush the thugs!

Hoax.
Pretty Common scenario:
Totally drunk person forgets where their care is, walks into a sign post, leaves their wallet on the bar, meets guy/girl....
Has to come up with an explanation for family, girlfriend, boyfriend, whoever, wah-lah!
THREE WHITE MALES and THREE BLACK MALES ALL WEARINJG BLACK HOODED CLOTHINIG Randomly ATTACK WHITE BURLINGAME PATRON.
Sounds more like a terrible horror movie from the 1970's.
