I'm fascinated by the old Towle's location that went from the old time coffee shop-style restaurant to a very successful seafood place to a Burger Joint and now The Melt focused on grilled cheese. I happened by on Thursday night around 8:15pm and it looked just like the Burger Joint used to look. After weaving my way through a packed house at Mediterranean Kebob last night around 7:15pm, The Melt had all of one table with customers. The dining competition on the Avenue isn't going to get any easier in the coming months as The Plant and Delfina arrive!

Ate there once and was not impressed. Very basic, very small sandwich. Nothing special about the bread or ingredients -- I can do much better with what's in the fridge at home! Plus the seating/atmosphere isn't very comfy. My husband and I left the place saying to each other, "This place ain't gonna last."

Sorry but if I want a cheese grill sandwich I will just make it at home.

It's just not that good. I feel as Joanne does. I can make a much better one at home. When we went there was only one high chair, and I would imagine the restaurant is catering to kids/families!

Hilarious. It is the first time I had a tough grilled cheese sandwich.
Give it six months.
Good idea. Buy the first three buildings starting at The Melt and tear them down. Then build another building and have Wallmart move in with a new Wallmart Mini since Burlingame is a Big Box city now anyway.
