My whole neighborhood went dark Wed night around 11:30pm and then the sirens started. The Daily Journal has the story and we have the photo
San Mateo police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at El Camino Real and Peninsula Avenue Wednesday night at about 11:30 p.m. and discovered that two northbound sport utility vehicles, each driven by intoxicated 17-year-old girls, collided in a sideswipe fashion at the intersection, according to police.
No injuries were reported but property damage, including a sheared PG&E pole and a sheared fire hydrant, caused significant impacts and delays in the area, according to police. Police and other agencies worked together to manage traffic closures, power outage and flooding in the area after the accident. The streets were partially reopened after a four-hour closure, but repair crews were working on the damaged intersection well into the daytime hours, according to police.
The two girls, both from Burlingame, were both found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested. They were cited and released to parents, according to police.
Aside from the obvious lesson that will be delivered to the two girls, this was a good reminder to me to check flashlight batteries and candle supplies. The supposedly rechargeable flashlights were not that recharged. Here's the hydrant spout and you can make out the downed power lines. It was a huge turnout of SM and B'game police, fire and ambulances.
Please clarify- if the girls had been 18 or over, would they have been put in jail for the night? I guess the sting operation last week missed these two-

This little incident probably cost the two cities a 10 or 20 thousand dollars. Who's going to get that bill?
