The news over the weekend about Apple's taxes being very low due to how it manages where it reports income and makes investments got a lot of press but may have been overstated. While I was in Asia, the Apple mystique was on full display. There was a story about a young Beijing woman who paid more than a month's salary for her iPhone 4S because all her friends have them. And this photo of the Hong Kong Apple store puts it in perspective (the bus is a regular, full-size bus), but understates it since the store continues on the right side out of frame!
Our own local store has been a good sales tax contributor and probably will remain so for some time. Details to follow as I get the city revenue figures.
