I understand that this store had been in business as a hardware store under various ownerships for approximately 80 years, so this isn't simply the loss of a hardware store. Rather, it is a loss of a unique piece of history of Broadway Avenue.

Sir, you are to be complemented. I neglected to check my trusty 1939 Burlingame directory before I posted the piece. You are correct since it shows "Broadway Hardware" occupying 1326 Broadway in 1939. We can go back further in the Historical archives, but that is as far as can go back--73 years--without a trip to Washington Park. I think the sign should stay regardless of what business moves in!

By the way, the next entry in the directory (1327 across the street) is the Cinnebar Cocktail lounge which was prominently mentioned at the Historical Society affair on Sunday. You could get a screwdriver on both side of B'way back then!

..and a wallbanger too.
