Here's the story of today's lockdown as reported in the Daily Journal
Burlingame High School was briefly locked down Friday and a student detained after he sent an email to administrators claiming he had a gun and a bomb, according to police.
The school, located at 1 Mangini Way in Burlingame, was locked down shortly after 2 p.m. and police responded to the campus, according to Barbara Tufo, an administrative assistant with the San Mateo Union High School District.
Administrators identified the student and determined he was on campus while police evacuated the school. Police detained the student and searched his backpack and lockers but found no weapon or explosive device. Police also swept the campus with a bomb-sniffing dog. The student was cooperative and police are investigating whether the threat was real, a hoax or a case of mistaken identity, according to police.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after 2:30 p.m. and parents were permitted to pick up their students at the school, Tufo said.
An automated call went out to parents notifying them of the incident, Tufo said.
It was a quick response with the full team including the dogs.
This isn't the first time, is it? Didn't it happen last year as well?

No, it did not happen last year. Lock down actually occurred around 1:20 pm right before passing period was over. Teachers were in their classrooms until about 2:15 or so, they their were instructed to go onto the field. Little information was given out. Then, students were let go around 2:45pmish.

Something similar happened three years ago, I believe, when my daughter was a student.

Here's an update:
An arrest has been made in the Burlingame High School bomb threat case that caused a two hour lock down and subsequent evacuation of the school campus last Friday afternoon.
On February 10, 2012, school administrators at Burlingame High School received an email from a student alleging he had a gun and a bomb, and warning them that they had better lock down the school. After a lock down and an evacuation of the campus, the student in question (a male whose name and email account were used to send the threatening message) was detained by police. A subsequent search of his person, property, and the entire school revealed no weapons or explosive devices.
The suspected student was cooperative with police and questioned thoroughly by investigators after the incident; however, based on his statement and the facts known to investigators at the time, no arrest was made.
On February, 13, 2012, after further investigation by police, a female student was arrested in the case and charged with making criminal threats and falsely reporting a bomb.
It is alleged that the female student used the male student’s email to send the message without his knowledge after he had logged into his account on a school computer and momentarily walked away from his workstation. No motive was given and she has been released on bail.

And here is a recap of an almost-final ruling that appeared in the weekend Daily Post.
The teenager that was charged has pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge. "The case has been sent out for a pre-sentence report and will go back to the courts Sept. 12 for a plea deal on the condition of no more than 30 days in county jail. The pre-sentence written report will be conducted by the probation department and will include contacting Burlingame High to see what sort of harm was done, said D.A. Steve Wagstaffe."

This looks like the end of this story after nine months. The excerpt is from the Daily Journal at http://www.smdailyjournal.com/article_preview.php?id=1758341&title=Teen bomb suspect ordered to repay response costs
The teenage girl who used a fellow student’s email to send Burlingame High School administrators a false bomb threat that put the campus on lockdown earlier this year must repay nearly $5,000 for the cost of the public safety response.
Christine Nicole Azzolino, 19, was sentenced in September to 15 days jail, 32 hours of counseling and three years of probation for making a false explosives report. On Friday, a court commissioner also ordered her to pay $3,426 to Central County Fire, $771 to the Burlingame Police Department and $795 to the San Francisco Police Department.
