The rapid pace of change on B'game Ave continues. There is movement among locations by some merchants, construction at some store locations and a couple more retail fatalities including Bonarda which has bitten the dust,
I keep meaning to count the yogurt places in the downtown area, but I need to bring a pencil and paper since I may not have enough fingers at this point.
Many thanks to all those who put American flags in the flag holders on the Avenue for the 9/11 remembrance. I noticed some of them were from the local Boy Scout troop and I think some merchants helped out as well.

Sorry to see this restaurant close. Really enjoyed the food, host, staff, and ambiance over the years.

Well, not the "Avenue" but Donnelly.
Just a month old, Rue Du Thé seems to be attracting attention. Nestled behind a cottage (hair salon) next to the back entrance of Pottery Barn, this business took over the space formerly occupied by the Candle outlet store.
If you like fine tea, (including many organic blends) try this place. They even make their own unique truffles--very fresh and taste heavenly-- great gift idea, too. Outdoor seating is quite attractive during our balmy fall weather.

Has anyone tried the new Turkish restaurant located where Bonarda once was?

I was not impressed.

Nor was I, in the slightest.

(It looks like this is going into the yogurt space near the end of the block that somehow I cannot remember opening after a very fancy tile job was completed. How many tea stores can survive in Burlingame, or is this a different type of tea experience??)
Burlingame Tpumps location brewing: Third store in boba franchise that originated in San Mateo
Angela Swartz/Daily Journal 11-08-2013
Tpumps, which expanded to San Francisco this summer, will open a new shop in Burlingame at the end of November.
Vanessa Gray, a two-year employee of Tpumps, serves up samples of green tea in the San Mateo tea shop.
A popular downtown San Mateo tea spot that serves up a variety of boba-based drinks is expanding to Burlingame Avenue in late November.
Tpumps, located on B Street, expanded to Irving Street in San Francisco this past summer and its owner, Alex Su, decided Burlingame would be a great new location to ease the San Mateo store’s long lines....
The new location, at 1118 Burlingame Ave., is slightly bigger and has air conditioning to make the store more comfortable for customers, Su said. There will not be seating though, as is the case in the San Mateo and San Francisco stores as well, just because Burlingame’s rent is very pricey, he said.

From what I know "TPumps" is a different kind of tea - not our families favorite (we prefer David's tea mango-tassi when in the mood) but there is definitely a following.
Maybe this will bring more shoppers to help support our retail stores - or more teenagers to make the old folks cranky!
Either way - I'm always excited to see new businesses coming in - let's hope they can stay!!!

It's asian boba or bubble tea with tapioca balls. The location in San Mateo often has a line outside their door. Not my thing, but it's very popular.

Doesn't T+ Noodle have those, on Howard?? Maybe they are not fancy enough for today's tapioca connoisseurs....(?)

I walked by the old Gates' store (former Malouf's) store last night. WOW, Sole Desire got the perfect location for their wares (shoes, purses, etc.). What a great use of that nice space, and it doesn't look as if it required much of a remodel, if at all.
