This image didn't come to mind when I heard that the old Wells Fargo building would be saved/reused during the Planning Commission and Council sessions. Some of the architects in town are scratching their heads as well since the building was an attractive modern architecture example. But let's hope it ends well!
The work on the water main on Primrose seems to be progressing well. According to the parking signs, it should be finished this Friday.
Are they going to put a frozen yogurt place in this building? Because what Downtown Burlingame really needs is a fifth frozen yogurt shop. The new one near Starbuck's is just going to make it one short, in my opinion.

Not only are some architects wondering but many residents are too. Why have the two long sides of the Wells Fargo building been completely removed and only about 20-25% of the shorter sides been left standing? I thought the building was going to be preserved, not just a small patch. Seems to me like the developers have pulled a fast one.

Until today I was not aware of a beautiful Oak tree there.
I hope it will stay.
I saw a big tractor run into it while I was at the stop sign.
Beautiful Tree.

I agree, this is really a disappointment. The building was supposed to be left mostly intact, at least from the front. I remember a discussion from the Planning Commission about what they (Safeway) would do to ensure the larger than normal bricks could be patched, if damaged. Unfortunately, we're way beyond a patch job. It almost looks as if the roof may collapse. At this point, I wonder why they bother keeping any of it, unless there is some kind of tax benefit to calling it a remodel, rather than a brand new building.
As far as the oak goes, that is definitely supposed to stay, but seeing that they have handled the Wells Fargo so poorly, I am not as confident in the plans for the tree, either.

I rode by the structure this afternoon and it looks even more ridiculous on the street than the photo posted here.
I wonder what the planning commission, the city council and everyone else involved in rules and regulations in this city thinks about this absurd situation? It's actually a graphic statement about everything wrong with our government. This stupidity of leaving a few small brick walls and a dilapidated roof in place should embarrass everyone involved, but I suspect the city planners and city council drive by and are pleased with the power they have exercised.
