Every fall I am reminded how much I like ginkos as street trees. They are spread around town, but they really shine on Bayswater where there are some really mature examples. This year we have been especially lucky that the wind has been calm so we are getting both the brilliant trees and a nice blanket on the ground beneath the trees.

Apparently you haven't walked down that street. The smell of the kinko fruit stuck to the bottom of running/walking shoes is very foul. Yes, it's a pretty tree from a distance at this time of the year but the ones that are dropping fruit are really really nasty.

Yes, but there aren't that many with fruit left. Over the past couple of years, the Parks Dept. has removed most of the remaining female trees by request and replaced with males. The vast majority lining the street are without fruit (or smell) and gorgeous. The gingkos are ancient trees, too. Maybe you've seen fossils of the leaves.
