Hillsborough paid tribute to our vets and to itself all at the same time today. There was a parade that traversed Floribunda Avenue, past the Burlingame Country Club-where it all began 100 years ago and onto North School. The mood was upbeat. Good music,$1.00 hot dogs, (made my mood upbeat), and a rare polo demonstration. Here are some pics.

That was a great parade and event today.
The children looked great.
The polo Pony was a bit much.
Anyway..
Why has there not been an OUTRAGE about ADVERTISEMENT CAMPAIGNE AT SEPHORA DIRECTED AT CHILDREN(GIRLS) 4-9 YEARS OLD?
SEPHORA PURPOSELY INSTALLED THE ADVERTZING CARTOON CHARACTERS AT EYE LEVEL FOR PREPUBERESANT CHILDREN.
WHERE ARE THE CITY ELDERS?
HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN?
FYI
SEPHORA, SITS BELOW A HALFWAY HOUSE/HOTEL.
WHO LIVES THERE?

Bebe was the same (actually worse). Years ago when that store first opened I wrote a letter to our City complaining about the absolutely huge, in-your-face soft porn ads. I figured out later the best defense is simply not to buy anything at all there. There is a small window of opportunity, maybe around age 10-11 when kids still sort of care what you think and can certainly be encouraged NOT to shop there. The most useful thing I ever said to my daughter in that regard was that "she is being manipulated" by the companies- Marketing 101. Many stores actually use your kid as an ad. They plaster a common Tee or other garment with their (huge) logo, then the kids not only pay for the shirt, but wear them basically as free advertising for these corporations. When I told my kids that, it clicked. Don't blame the stores for trying to sell stuff most parents will let their kids wear. Clueless for sure........

I'm sorry to have missed the polo demonstration. Did they actually play or just show how it is done?

Dear Hillsider, Do you know how Polo became a sport?
Hillsider, please respond..

Thank you very much Jennifer for taking the time to comment on this subject.
Maybe it is the culture of The City of Burlingame to endorse marketing at any cost.
Afterall, it is difficult to walk down Burlingame Ave sidewalk, or stand in line at SB due to the $1500.00-25.000 baby carriages. Those little 3-9 year old girls, and up & coming metro sexual boys need a place to spend their time.
Instead of sports, in the future, the best make up wins!
What a Shame.

It's always amazing to see what Holyroller will say. It must be exhausting to seek out the worst in every situation. Or maybe just very sad.

I have a new name for him--Holy Stroller! I have no idea if there is such a thing as a $25,000 baby stroller, but I'm sure that if there is, he thinks city workers who are not police or firefighters should have one!
Polo started as a scene in Pretty Woman where the guy embarasses the girl, right?

Holyroller,
You are awful, you find bad things to say about everything!! Please don't say bad things about kids. Maybe you should stop by the new cupcake bakery and buy yourself a treat, maybe that would sweeten you up. You are just plain nasty!! Please do us all a favor and move out of burlingame.

"Holy Stroller"-excellent! Bgame, you are so right-Holy Stroller is just too unhappy to stay here!

I really stirred up the Baby Buggy Lobby, did't I.
Anyway, I am sorry if contributers to this blog think of me as negitive.
I have an opinion. Lots of time given tounge/cheek.
However, I am glad that there are people here who care enough about thier community to share their opinion as well..
I know that it is hard to push those strollers downtown through pedestrian traffic, stand in line at Starbucks-(any other Cafe') making customers stand outside, or crowded, and be completly obilvious to the people around you and your bundle of joy. It is a defence response, I get it.
We live in a community.
The sum is greater than the whole.
That is why I live here.
That is how Burlingame is whwt it is.
I like babies as much as the next person.
However, the moment we all come to grips with the fact "we are not the center of the universe," and indocternating our children/future to that mind set,the sooner things like 9/11, Wall Street Rip offs will stop.
Same goes for Baby Strollers!

Sorry to tell you, Holyroller, but you're more sanctimonious and defensive than any of the other contributors to this site!!
By the way, I haven't pushed a baby stroller in about 20 years.
Face it-you're just a crab.

A Happy Crab!
Thanks for you insight.
