As 2009 stumbles to a close, let's consider the trite but true "best of" selections for Burlingame. I have a few and you should feel free to add more:
Best fine dining restaurant: Rocca
Best grocery store: Mollie's
Best elementary school fundraiser: Washington Dad's Club wine auction
Best lunch: Bonne Sante, but Sam's does the job just fine
Best baby clothing store on Burlingame Ave: who cares?
Best hike/bike: the Bayfront edges out Mills Canyon by a view
Best architect: TRG Associates
Best new building: it looks like Walgreen's will turn out OK after all
Best Chinese food: Hot Wok, just over the border in San Mateo, but so close they win
Can't wait to hear your selections.
Best place to just have a good time!
Motown Monday's at the Broadway Grill.

Best place for an unusual meal at a moderate price: Mingalaba (try the tea leaf salad)
Best place for unusual (and cheap) food: Tea Plus Noodle (the prawn salad is wonderful)

(And both of the above offer gracious service to customers, too!)

How about a good Lobster?

Not a restaurant, but you should check out New England Lobster in South San Francisco. We always get great lobster there!
Lots of information on Yelp:

I agree that Sam's is a great value. In fact, here's a link to an article posted on the examiner.com. Read it and then satiate those salivary glands and go visit:

Not necessarily a "best of" - but I just found out there's a alternative, new way to spread the word within the Burlingame community -- via Facebook. One benefit is you can become a "fan" and then have the freedom to create your own posts on the "wall". Here's a link to the site:

One other follow up on the City of Burlingame's new Facebook page: Not only can you post on their "Wall," but there is a separate "Discussions" page on which one can initiate "New Topics."

This is not 'Best Of', either, rather the opposite. Has anyone been by the new BevMo store lately?-- the sign is gargantuan- Am I understanding correctly that the signage allowed correlates to the square footage of a store and any other signage they have?? 'Not sure, but that seems odd-
As classy as that Walgreens store is looking just across the street- the big red BevMo sign really detracts ('screams out' is probably a more accurate description), particularly at the entrance of that street.
BEST signage award?? Well, Morning Glory boutique has an attractive one. Check out their elaborate window displays throughout the year, too.
