Thanks to the hundreds of folks that came out this Sunday to enjoy the West Bay Community Band, the unveiling of the new Southern Pacific Sign on the tower of the building and the museum inside the station. It is a wonderful beginning to this new asset for Burlingame and Hillsborough. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make it a reality. Please bring your children, freinds and family for a visit. The museum will be open every Sunday, 1pm-4pm through December.

From Daily Journal:

The Burlingame Lions Club recently donated an authentic reproduction of an early 1900 Southern Pacific Sign to the Burlingame History Museum. The sign is an exact replica of the one that once was on the tower of the Burlingame train station. The sign was removed years ago when the train station became part of the Joint Powers Board and Caltrain.

The new sign was the project of Gary Vielbaum, past president of the Burlingame Lions Club. While president, he wanted to do something for the historical society, and the sign seemed like a great idea, and became his goal. The sign is 48-inches in diameter, crafted in porcelain enamel on 16-gauge steel and cost $2,350. It has been in storage for over two years, waiting for the opening of the history museum.
