I hope "Donald" will understand that this is an opinion (and an affectionate one) but I am so sorry to see Burlingame Stationers leaving Burlingame - historically and practicality-wise. The staff have always been so helpful and this store has been such a plus to our downtown.
Reporters Notebook (
Daily Journal)
After nearly 75 years of business on Burlingame Avenue, Burlingame Stationers will be closing its doors. Owners Bob Bishop and Gail Bishop Welter announced plans to close shop this week citing flat sales and increasing rent. An inventory closeout sale is planned through September.

affectionately...this site was ruined by snarky comments...enjoy yourself. the comment about the lovely additions to the train station platform were over the top, and worse now that some "Donald" call it out.
Why are you "sorry"? Sorry that folks are moving on as their business decision, sorry you didn't spend enough money there, sorry that lovely folks are retiring...are they sorry? for what? Sorry for that "silly" tree...you'll seen soon enough that all the trees are going on to the dust mill. Are you sorry now, upilumpi?
affectionately,
jbg

Has anyone seen what is happening on Howard Ave!
"Henry's House of Coffee"
It is gone as of today.
15 years there.. Great place.
The owners of the property decided to not renew the lease.
Another example of the extreamly poor way the City Elders have with dealt with the "Mom Pop" Main street America, that has brought so much "VALUE" to living in the City of Burlingame.
Thanks Henry, you will be missed!

I am always sorry, "johnny", when stores that are a part of our community disappear - whatever the reasons. I liked the owners and their staff, I could always find office supplies with just a walk to downtown (rather than go to Office Depot) and there was always a large variety of greeting cards, seasonal items and gifts. They were also generous for fundraising events. Walgreens has some office supplies and we have two excellent greeting card stores on Burlingame Avenue but, yes, I am sorry to see the Stationery store leave and, in particular, their personnel.
Burlingame life will carry on just as it did without Woolworths, Electric Avenue, The Feed Store, La Pinata, Towles and a defunct tree.
Love that the new Burger Joint has painted on a "frieze" (trompe l'oeil?) around the top of the Towles building to mimic the frieze already on the adjacent walls. Its a clever creative way to continue the design.
There is a sign on the Burger Joint window that they will be "coming soon" but no date. It will be great to see activity again on that important corner of downtown.

I had also heard a couple of chain
stores will be leaving the avenue as
well due to high rents and flat sales.
Pottery Barn and Ann Taylor were two
of the mentioned stores.
Has anyone else heard about this?
Maybe property owners will eventually
price themselves out of the rental market and they will end up with empty storefronts.

Dear Fiona,
I am not sure how to start a new thread.
However, I would like to bring to your attension the trees that are dieing on ECR that were replacements for the "Dangerous Eucs."
Between Peninusula and Dufferin, every single tree that was planted to replace the removals are almost dead.
All they need is water.
The State has lots on it's plate right now.
Nevertheless, is there something we can do to just get the COB to water those trees?
Just water...
