Job Opening -- The speculation has already begun in the wake of San Mateo City Manager Arne Croce's retirement announcement. Besides his immediate deputy, Susan Loftus, one name that came up right away was Jim Nantell, city manager in nearby Burlingame. Nantell used to work for Croce some years ago and Burlingame wooed him away. But San Mateo has nearly four times Burlingame;s population, acreage and scope. Croce's job has to be tempting.

Our PR Director is a candidate, Randy Schartz.
He did a great job managing the Burlingame/Millbrae situations.
Put him in the driver seat.
San Mateo would really benifit from a breth of fresh air!

I hope this Burlingame does everything it can to retain Jim. From my own humble experience, he seems like a great city manager.
