Dear Editor: It is with great concern and disgust that I write to inform you of a serious trash problem in Burlingame around the Caltrain station. This trash has accumulated over the past six months, most recently including a shopping cart filled to the top with additional trash. Last weekend as I walked from Burlingame High School with my dog enjoying a leisurely weekend stroll, I noticed a syringe/hypodermic needle on the ground close to the doughnut shop on the corner.
I take the train to work during the week and for the past two days, I see the Burlingame High School students waiting for the trains to pass to cross the tracks for school while standing by a shopping cart full of trash and what appears to be a used needle.
What will it take for the city to do something about this? Sally Borg, Millbrae

Sally is right. This morning we passed through the gazebo at the station, which was full of glass bottles of alcohol, about 10 of them, and other trash. Definitely not a pretty sight. Seems as if the station area has degraded quite a bit, since it isn't as easily accessible right now with all the work going on.

Perhaps the train station has been added to the list of areas that Mrs. Keighran's Clean Up Committee and volunteers will clean up avery month - even though others should be clearing up this area as it is not City property.
A very dedicated volunteer group tackled Burlingame Avenue and Broadway business districts from 8:00 am this morning - including a large group of YAC students et al. who got up early on a Sunday morning to clean up our town. Imagine ... teenagers getting up so early on Sunday!
Thank heavens there are volunteers who pick up when others do not.
