IT'S no wonder Burlingame's Carol Tanzi was shaking her head in mild frustration recently. As you may know, she has become something of an expert in re-using materials others don't want. As the self-styled "Goddess of Garbage," she has taken Dumpster-diving to fresh and creative heights during the years. She has developed quite a niche for herself in the process. But, she offered the other day, she's been having trouble getting her own town's scavenger guys to pick up her routine recycling stuff on the appointed day every other week. In the end, perhaps Tanzi will have to provide the people at Allied Waste with a seminar on timely trash-hauling and bin-handling. We shall see.

I'm really not sure what my trash day is anymore. I put everything out on Thursday, but parts don't seem to disappear until Friday. Then sometimes, there's a random garbage truck appearing on an
"off" day that seems to be trolling for leftovers. I don't think they know which end is up. In he meanwhile, the big winners are the famous "recyclers" on foot and cycle, that have ample time to pick and choose their wares.
