The Il Piccolo Players "Ye Ole Fashioned Radio Drama" troupe will perform " The First Nighter For Pete's Sake" by Joel Murcott on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 7:30 PM. This romantic comedy first aired on January 27, 1953 and originally the audience was directed to "the little theatre off Times Square". Burlingame's audience will be entertained in "the little theatre on Broadway the Il Piccolo Theatre"!
The attendant shouting "Have your tickets ready, please! Have your tickets ready, please!" is ten year old Ben Benson. Leslie Ragsdale, Doug Benson and Michael Lee play the "love triangle", Charles Voltz is the genial "First Nighter", Stephen Hamilton is the Hollywood producer "Nero" and Bobbi Benson is the comedic, wry "Kate". The troupe promises even better sound effects this time Sandy Towle heads up the sound effect group, and simulating the sound of a train (sans Cal-Train) isn't an easy task, but the ingenuity is laudable.
If you miss this performance, you will have another chance to watch it on Burlingame's Comcast Channel 27 in the coming months. Check the channel's crawl for the dates and times.
As an added treat, the audience will enjoy vaudevillian-type skits performed by the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Department's "Oh, You're Such a Character" students. One scene dates back to 1920 and is still as hilarious as it was way back then, with an added contemporary twist!
