The Burlingame City Council refused to keep a probe going that the Planning Commission violated California open meeting laws by circulating a letter signed by all endorsing Jerry Deal over Mike Coffey for a council seat Jan. 2, 2001. The allegation drew the attention of the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury, which recommended the District Attorney's Office review the violation for further criminal prosecution. Deal lost to Coffey in his bid for council by nine votes.
Too bad about those nine votes!
