After the first study session, I asked the City Manager and others whether the BHS got the effing money and they said yes.
Well it seems that $3,000 is a hard check for the present mayor to sign to the BHS. From what I have heard, the mayor thinks $3,000 should come out of the Facilities Master Plan and not the Grant Funding. If the City is going to DONATE $30,000+ towards a city museum, then of course it would have to come out of a large pot. But are we talking about $3,000 requested by the BHS or is the mayor going to donate megazillions to a community asset?
Oh the webs we weave ...

The Burlingame Daily News must not make it to Kenya, so Fiona here is the first paragraph of today's story:
"Burlingame Mayor Joe Galligan said this week that he wants to buy the historic Burlingame Avenue train station, even though Caltrain says the building is not for sale. Galligan at Monday's City Council meeting argued that $3,000 earmarked for a grant to the Burlingame Historical Society, which leases the Burlingame Avenue train station from Caltrain, should instead be drawn from the city's capital improvements budget - a move that if taken now could set the city in a strong bargaining position to buy the historic station later."

"effing money" Fiona, do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Do you teach you kids to speak that way?

I am confused by the manner in which the money was shuffled around. I do not understand why the $3000 doesn't remain in the grant column so it can be spent for those thing the BHS feel are necessary and if the city wants to buy the building then they should set that money aside for just that purpose.
Can someone help me understand why we need to move the money around?

All in all it sounded like a pretty cynical move on Galligan's part to cover his long track record of not supporting much that is historical in town. If I were Caltrain, I would offer to buy Burlingame City Hall. Both offers have the same chance of ever happening. It is always entertaining watching him muddy an issue that should be really simple.

How long will this Galligan hate-a-thon persist? It's getting positively wretched to behold.
