Did anyone else hear or see the helicopter that hovered somewhere over the Washington Park area early this morning? I hope there wasn't another fight at the Lions Hall.

The organizers of Burlingames second annual Pet Parade on Sunday, September 25 2005, are inviting Burlingame schools, nursery schools, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, community groups, pet product companies and animal associations to register for booths during the event. Booths are free for school, Scout and childrens groups; there is a $25 charge for other organizations. Each group is responsible for bringing its own card table, chairs and signage. Groups are welcome to pass out information about their activities, sell craft items or simple dessert items such as cookies, do face painting, make balloon animals or provide instant pet portraits.
The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Broadway and will be followed by a Street Festival. It is sponsored by the Burlingame Merchants Association, Daily Journal and is cosponsored by the Burlingame Lions Club, which will offer a barbecue lunch. Anyone interested in registering for a booth may call Jean Silveira at (650) 344-4945 or email her at jlsilveira@comcast.net. The deadline for registering for a booth is September 9

No, this is not about the first election kick off party but from the Times today!
WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY School is holding its fifth annual Renaissance Faire from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5 at 801 Howard Ave. The event will include Renaissance-era crafts, period games, food and drinks and live entertainment. Students will perform "Much Ado About Nothing" at noon.
Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes. The event is free

Wasn't that what a councilmember said about one of our more lively downtown establishments?
According to the San Mateo Times, it seems that Fanny & Alexander and another club want their patrons to dress up – not down. Sneakers, t-shirts and untucked shirts are not the fashion they are looking for in their establishments.
Officers wrote up a report about the club which might be used against them – not for the fashion snafu – next time the entertainment permit comes up for renewal.

Call to City Hall lurkers:
(1) The council minutes used to include all correspondence received. Does it still do this because I know of at least a couple of letters which have not been included in the minutes list.
(2) Why not also include in the minutes the committee meetings that our councilmembers attend? Not the church barbecues, etc. but the ones where our elected officials are representing the City of Burlingame. This would show which councilmembers are doing their share of attending meetings and, more importantly, which councilmembers sit on which committees.
Seems like a no brainer to me!

In the San Mateo Times today, there is an interesting article about Burlingame memories called "Town still creating memories".
They have erroneously attributed the memories to the city website. Absolutely wrong. The memories are contained on The Burlingame Historical Society where you can read great stories about Burlingame from current and past residents.

According to the Chronicle today, Broadway and Atherton will have service on weekends. Weekday service will end at both stations on August 1 and there will be a shuttle bus through 2006. The article does not state how many trains will be running over the weekend..

Over the last year, designers and residents have held public workshops about what they envision for downtown Redwood City. The result is blueprints for the upcoming plaza and restoring the courthouse to its prior splendor. City officials want more pedestrian traffic and an area where the community can congregate. The goal is to play to nostalgia rather than offering a modern courtyard. Over and over again, speakers yesterday said the new design opens up the future by harkening to the past.
No this is not about Burlingame – can't you tell?! Perhaps this would be too much "vision" for Burlingame but it might be a start to see what our neighbors are up to!

The San Mateo Daily Journal reports that according to the Broadway survey, a bakery is needed on Broadway. Also more family restaurants, a shoe store and a meat market. Some said there were too many nail and hair salons.
Kudos to Ann Keighran for spearheading this survey to find out what residents want. Thank you, Ann.
Whats up with Burlingame Avenue and those four or five or is it six empty stores plus soon to be empty photo store? Are the rents too high or is our Big Street not as proud as it could be?
