I echo Patrick's sentiments here. For the most part, the local news improves in proportion to the reporters' experience in the County so when we "lose" a budding veteran we take a bit of a step backward. I'm sure the Times will bring in another inquisitive person to fill Justin's shoes. He or she will have to come up to speed quickly to be effective in the coming campaign season.

They don't seem to last long, do they? I wonder what ever happened to Dwana? Is she around?

Yes, she is, and still doing some work for an area wire service.

Did the Times announce when Justin would be leaving? I noticed an Insider column in yesterday's (April 30th) paper. I hope the paper sees fit to continue to staff that column. Justin, if you're out there, fill us in on your transition date. Thanks.

Hey Jenn, just happened to perusing this thread when I saw my name.
For those of you who don't know, I've been working for Bay City News covering courts and such out of the San Mateo County Courthouse.
The Examiner/Independent changed a lot over the years I worked there and I really wanted a change. I will be making more changes still ... In the fall I'll be a 1L at UC Hastings College of the law.
Obviously, however, I still take an interest in the goings-on in Burlingame :-)

Congratulations on Hastings. Thanks for the update, Dwana!

Congradulations Dwana. We all know you will be incredible at whatever you do... The world could really use more people like you, San Mateo County is a better place because of the work you have done...
For those of you who don't know Dwana is perhaps one of the nicest and charismatic human beings you can come across, additionally she is a dam good reporter... Best wishes.
We have been really lucky to have reporters who care like Dwana, Justin, Ed Carpenter, and Jon Mays to name a few... I think they rarely get enough credit.

I also like Christine who always seems fair in her reporting, is always eager to know what is happening and, unlike another local reporter, always gets the facts and the spelling right.
