Another interesting outcome from the study session was that Architect Ionescu "would like to design and develop a project in downtown Burlingame. We have identified a possible mixed use project on the West side of Donnelly Street". He proposed that the city hall give him access to the street plans and he would do some drawings and then go to the citizens, etc. for input on his design. Most of us think slabs of parking lots are not the best way to use our precious land and are open to any suggestions.
Mr. Ionescu's pitch seemed to buck the system by asking at a study session but hey. We look forward to seeing his plan and I am sure there will be plenty of residents who love the idea of mixed use but want the first mixed-use in Burlingame to be the best!

I thought he got a somewhat frosty reception, perhaps it should have been brought up elsewhere. It might just be too early for this Council to think about mixed-use elsewhere in town, or even on the Safeway lot. I always have to remind myself that we have never been trail-blazers. On the otherhand, as long as he isn't expecting a job out of it, I see no harm. At least it can expand everyone's mind a bit.

Reviewing the agenda for the sturdy session, I did not see ANYTHING about multi-use proposal(s). It appears, again, Da Mayor has used his personally perceived divine powers to invite Dan Ionescu to pitch his idea, but Da Mayor couldnt find time to invite Martin Dreiling for his input. The possibility exist that Da Mayor floor the citizens with various multi-use options so they become confused with the volume of information, which would favor Safeway.
