An interesting
article in the San Francisco Chronicle today detailed the problems one group of citizens have experienced trying to raise money to help their city. The ladies of Carmel took inspiration from the
2003 movie Calendar Girls and raised some $40,000. However their city refused to accept these monies claiming it would "offend sensibilities".
Now let's think crossing guards! Curiously this subject never came up in the study session on the budget. Can we assume that the city will be paying for the crossing guards next year ... or does the CBB have to strip off to raise the money. Maybe Jays Smoke shop will contribute .. I'm sure Safeway won't!

Wasn't that curious that crossing guards wasn't even mentioned. I was going to bring it up but wanted to see if the council members would do so first. They can talk about parking until the cows come home but not $64,000 on crossing guards. Shame once again on our council. It is doubly strange in an election year when the incumbents will want the parents' votes. If it wasn't such a distasteful idea perhaps our council should sign up for January in the snow with a STOP sign, February with a valentine shaped stop sign,, March in the rain with a stop sign, April and May! You get the picture!

Talking about offending sensibilities, there were a couple of people who came out of Saturday's meeting that were so offended they want to run in the next local election! Now there are some sensibilities!

I think that the school parent constituency knows who is "with 'em" and who is "agin 'em" at this point. Many parents may not speak up very often, but they definitely vote in Burlingame.

Everyone needs an editor otherwise this site (and many others) would just descend into nonsense. It's time to "put up or shut up" ME.
