Well shopping at Lunardi's and spending the grand total of $185.55 for 47 items the sale tax added was - wait for it - $2.03. However as we all know only 1/17th of that total goes to the City of Burlingame - 12 cents. I know ... if 28,000 Burlingame residents shop in Burlingame and spend $187,55, all those 12 cents add up.
I give thanks that Lunardi's is in Burlingame and am happy to give that great grocery store my $185.55. I am also happy to give Burlingame my 12 cents!

Well, I lost my Safeway receipt, which was around $140, so I missed out on observing the tax. The Whole Foods receipt for 30 items is 117.33, $2.20 of which is tax. It is to a city's benefit to encourage a "grocery" store that has lots of taxable, non-grocery items. But in turn, it does take away from the cross-shopping that should occur in a healthy downtown.

I forgot Mollies, where we got our turkey. Eight items, totally $84.81, no tax!
