We wanted an urban store with a vibrant streetscape,? agrees Safeway public affairs director Bridget Flanagan, a store that worked for the community.?
It sounds like Bridget should come to Burlingame!

There's a great quote right at the end:
"In building Museum Place, Everyone from the CEO on down was involved in the decision to go green, Flanagan says."
Ms. Flanagan meet Mr. Who-daq, Mr. Who-daq meet Ms. Flanagan. I wonder if the CEO has any inkling about how badly Burlingame wants a "green Safeway". He might wonder why his lawyer's ego is getting in the way of doing the right thing.
We certainly need energy conservation at much as Portland does. BULB has done a great job getting PGE to improve the local transmission, but the statewide energy issue continues. And imagine just 200 linear feet of windows on Primrose looking out at the oak tree...........

Where can we find out more about the Portland Safeway? Do you have a photo?

I hope someone will show this site to our mayor.
If it can be done in Portland it can surely be done in Burlingame.

I should be up ion Portland sometime in the next few weeks. I will take lots of pictures of it. If it is where I think it is, yes, that is a very urban area. WE could certainly make the same concept more charming to fit our character, if we have some help!
