Burlingame has $49,100 allocated for FY 2004-2005 for "Community Groups". From City budget papers, community grants requested this year total $44,230.00.
Last year Burlingame had funding monies left over even though I know of at least one very worthwhile Burlingame group did not receive a penny. How could that be, especially when - in my opinion - less worthwhile non-Burlingame groups received a nice handout.

Does anyone know if the community grants are chosen by a Burlingame Council subcommittee or by the whole council?. If by subcommittee, which two councilmembers are on that subcommittee?

What an interesting question! Wouldn't it interesting to know who is in charge of the purse strings. I do not recall ever hearing the council vote on a grant issue. This might be a pretty good cause, to make all grant funding for a public issue, open to the public.

All community grant requests will be considered at the city council's special budget study session to be held Tuesday, June 1st at 6 p.m. in the Lane Room at the library.
