  • Kudos to the owners of two properties:

    * 1115 Howard Avenue
    and
    * 1205 Howard Avenue

    Both exteriors lovingly restored to their original glory and a real asset to Howard Avenue and Burlingame in general. Perhaps these examples could be a lesson learned for Burlingame Avenue properties! Remodel with integrity!

  • Poor Mr Hudak had a bad commission meeting last night – one strike was that the new Safeway supplement to the EIR received a big blow from the Planning Commissioners.

    He received a second strike when his client, Mr. Otto Miller's new housing development on Drake Avenue was "red-tagged". The reason – a "misunderstanding" when a contractor ripped out a redwood tree root without a city-designated arborist present. This development has been debated, discussed, questioned, written about and argued about for 16 months. The reason – the neighbors were concerned about the destruction of the redwood trees and the size of the monster houses.

    Great visual – a resident showing the Planning Commissioners a huge root which had been ripped out of the ground. It certainly made the point, loud and clear! Considering Miller is a renowned developer who has destroyed many a good Burlingame home to build a monster house, you would think he would have listened to the neighbors, spoken to his contractors, listened to the Planning Commissioners and he would know the rules. Shame, shame, shame.

  • The Citizens for a Better Burlingame have just published their response to the revised Safeway project Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Calling this revised EIR 'fatally flawed' the group points out eight glaring omissions.

    You can read their response to the latest revision to the EIR on the CBB website.

    Remember that the Planning Commissioners will be discussing the EIR on Monday December 8 in City hall at 7pm.

  • Despite the wet conditions a couple of hundred parents and excited children were on hand at Burlingame station to greet Santa and his carolers this evening. This was a great opportunity to donate a new, unwrapped toy to the US Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program.

    The world's largest toy train, decorated with more than 40,000 lights, pulled into Burlingame station on time at 5:40pm on its south bound Peninsula journey. The children and parents were entertained by onboard carolers and a Salvation Army brass band. Santa, Mrs. Claus and their extended family were there to greet kids and pose for pictures.

    At 6:00pm with Santa in his caboose the train headed off south. No sign of reindeer anywhere!
