The excuse for raising the meter fees in Burlingame is that we need more revenue. How come all these meters disappear when the rates go up elsewhere? The meters in front of Mike Harvey's dealerships are still there. I don't see any logical reason for those meters to disappear. If someone is shopping for a $60,000 Hummer, I don't think 50 cents in a parking meter is going to discourage them from stopping.
What's going on here??? Where's the press on this one?

One of the "problems" with parking meters along what used to be a major "auto row" is that even with today's technology, the meters won't "take" (as payment) your wife or husband, pink slip or a check!
The auto dealers have usually had their way with City Council, citing the large sums of tax revenue they generate for this town. That's why the Council has been so cooperative with the auto dealers in the past, even going so far as to pass a law prohibiting residents from posting a "for sale" sign on their own car(s)! This law is rarely enforced, of course, but all it takes is a call to the PD to report this "crime."

You can't have both ways. City wants tax revenues from these car dealerships, then the City have to give them incentives for their business. I can't afford a $60k Hummer, and don't think I want to pay 50 cents for the parking either.

How do you think Mike Harvey got that ugly bright sign Las Vegas type of electronic sign on Broadway???? It did not even come before public comment and before you knew it - there it was!!! Wonder how much he's given to the gang of three?
