I wonder if your group understands how the Art Jazz Festival is put on and what it accomplishes for the community. The Festival is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Although we work with a promoter on some aspects of the Festival, much of the planning and effort is done by Chamber staff and our volunteers. Our goal is to provide a place and time when residents can get together and also to bring nonresidents to our shopping district (with the hope that they will return after the Festival). The Chamber sells wine, beer, water and soft drinks, again through the efforts of volunteers. A large portion of the proceeds goes right back into the Burlingame Avenue commercial district, since these are the funds that pay for the Holiday Open House in December and help pay for the tree lighting ceremony. As President of the Chamber of Commerce this year, I spent a lot of time in the booth on Saturday and Sunday. So did Mary Janney. Tim Auran and Mike Coffey each put in time. So did a lot of other volunteers who care about the community and want to help it succeed. Mary and Mike and Tim and I worked last year as well. We gave up our weekend and time with our families so that the Chamber and the Burlingame Avenue Merchants Association can have a fun festival and a successful holiday open house in December. All of the Chamber staff and our volunteers deserve a pat on the back from the community. (and, no, the wine was not from Safeway) Best regards. Mark Hudak

Let me be the second blogger to give the chamber a pat on the back for their efforts on the avenue during Jazz on th Avenue. The margarita booth in particular seemd well attended as well as well-manned.

Mark Hudak: me thinks thou doth protest too much!

For anyone criticizing the initial blog, please read it again. As you will see, it in no way criticizes anyone for volunteering at the booth. Wow, we are all a little too sensitive!
