Manager responds to jail debate (by Shaun Bishop, Palo Alto Daily News - 06/04/2008 A sharply worded letter from San Mateo County Manager John Maltbie appears to have done little to ease tension over the potential construction of a new county jail in Redwood City. ... "To suggest that Redwood City is the only location that has been considered or that this community hosts all controversial County facilities ignores and misrepresents reality,'' Maltbie wrote. ... A consultant's report lists seven potential sites for a new jail, two of them outside Redwood City: an area of Bay-front land in Burlingame near Coyote Point Park and a site near Tower Road in the San Mateo Highlands. It also lists five sites within Redwood City, including two near the County Center and three near the women's jail on Maple Street.Nota bene: This is only a small part of Shaun's article, so please click here for the rest of the article. Question - Would this be considered affordable housing in Burlingame!?!

Does anyone know what's going on with or whether Coyote Point is still on the list as a possible new jail site/rehabilation center?
I keep wondering about all the huge roadway construction over by Coyote Point and whether this relates to any future development of a jail right next to a beautiful recreational area.
There has been no mention of this in the local papers and updates on this subject have been very quiet for some time.

We wouldn't need to be building any new jails if we protected our borders and enforced immigration laws.

That is true.
That might be a good reason to put the jail near Coyote Point.
