Who is watering those trees?

If Caltrans is going to remove old trees and replace them with saplings, they ought to plant with more care and attention.
Putting a sapling into the ground and securing it with a stake that's flimsier than a broomstick, is pathetic. Each new replacement tree ought to be anchored with three stakes, especially given the windy conditions which are normal here frequently.
I hope our city council members will be more vocal about the relative neglect in caring for the replacements which have been planted over the past couple of years.
Caltrans can do better and should do better.

Who is watering those trees?

Has anyone contacted the City Council regarding the reforestation stopped by two people?
There are aprox 70 trees sitting in the Park Dept yard ready for planting. Please feel free to come to Washington Park to see.
Regarding the grant applied for and given to Tim Richmond for Reforestation- $275,000 is in the process of being returned to the organization. Due exclusivly to the inability to "just plant" a few trees.
The leadership of the Park Depts. programs from Baseball, Soccer, and just planting a DAM tree has gone off the rails.
Please contact a city elder to voice your quiestions, concerns/.

It is too bad that we do not have a Councilmember Tree Czar that we can contact about trees but I have contacted my two trusted elected officals to ask about the status of the grant.
I have received a letter from the Parks department telling me that my city tree will be removed. No information about why, date of removal, date when the replacement tree will be planted and with what species and/or whether I get a choice of tree. Our street has more varieties of trees that anyone could wish for and is therefore not a "theme street" in any stretch of the themer's imagination.
Surely they must have some timeline? It seems that some of this information could have been included in the letter without having to make a phone call, a call I will make on Tuesday.
Perhaps this is why residents are complacent about taking care of city trees in front of their homes?

What is going on that two people can bring this City to a halt?
Time to look for leadership.
Maybe Jim Nantell shoud move on to San Mateo.

I know Cal Trans must be a Bear to work with.
I know it is not the fault of anyone from the City of Burlingame.
If it was not for the strong leadership at City hall, our Ave., El Camino would look like San Mateo. From what I was told it was almost a miricle to get those trees replaced.
Think a letter, or email campain would be very helpful to Cal Trans letting them know how we feel.

HR, It would be difficult for Burlingame if Mr. Nantell left for anywhere - especially with the news that Larry is leaving.
They are both well respected members of our city government in the two most important jobs in our city government.
