The City of Burlingame Parks Division is pleased to say that 200 new trees have been planted in the City planter strips since October of last year. In order to assist us in maintaining our beautiful urban forest, we are asking recipients of these new trees to remember to water these young trees, at least 5 gallons of water once each week, not only to keep the tree from dying; but also to help the young tree grow and remain healthy through its life cycle. Likewise, it is also important to note that all property owners should remember to water trees on their private property, particularly during the dry, drought-like conditions we are now experiencing. The City of Burlingame is proud of its Tree City status. Thanks to all of you as we work together in this important endeavor.Source: city e-newsletter dated April 11, 2008

I am aware that "Elder Kerrigan" has been looking into financial issues regarding every aspet of City of Burlingame.
Regarding the planting of one 15 gallon tree costs the city @ $278.00, per tree.
It is a horrible misuse of tax that is used to replant trees that homeowners do not maintain.
Lets come up with a plan.

Our councilmembers are elected "to look into financial issues" especially during "economic downturns" - that is why they were elected and why they may be elected again - well some of them will be reelected and some will definitely not.
What do you think the plan should be?

Maybe the Park Department could hire someone to just water trees that are being neglected.
Especially during the spring and summer.

I learned today that the grant awarded to the Burlingame Park Dept regarding the planting of trees,$275,000 will soon be sent back to the program initiators.
Timelines follow grants and at this time the Park Dept does not have the ability to maintain the trees to be planted.
In the mean time, there are two people who have stopped the reforestation program.(Please see Beautifacation Committee Minutes)
Where will the PR Director go from here?

Are you sure?
I hope you are incorrect because this makes absolutely no sense.
Perhaps the "two" should get on their bikes!?

Please confirm with Tim Richmond.
He was the person responsible for being awarded the grant.(Good Work Mr. Richmond.)
I am aware that he has a hard time giving answers, and is good at dancing around the facts.
Please ask for the FACTS.

Tim Richmond will be retired this Friday,05/09/08.
There is not a replacement at this time, and our elders are still deciding if his position will be "re-filled".
Randy Schartz is the "go to guy" regarding the future of reforestation, and the direction of the Burtlingame Park Dept. is going.
Please come to El Torito this Friday o5/09/08.
4:30-6:30 PM.
All the "Players" will be there

How about a volunteer watering brigade. Why not start an adopt-a-tree campaign. Ask the closest resident to adopt a tree and give them instructions and a back up. Does PR give residents watering guidelines? I would be willing to volunteer my family to adopt one. Maybe we can take Tom Jr.(aka Twiggy.)

Maybe...
trees/planting/watering/grants should take priority over the Burlingame May 18 Green Fair.

Double aaaargh!
I like your constructive idea, jroc. Perhaps if we all just watched the new trees on our individual blocks and give them a glass of water when they look like they need one? That would help in a small but significant way?

Holy Roller.....you have no idea what you are talking about. Reminds me of TucsonAZ on this blog from awhile ago.
First of all Tim Richmond never danced around questions. He has been straight forward with people all his career. I've had plenty of interaction with him and he is a stand-up person.
Second.....they went out for his position once and didn't find the right fit, so they are going out again. The "elders" aren't re-deciding anything.
Last.....since when did you start handing out invitation to Tim's party? I think it's invite only and the way you talk about Tim I'm guessing you're not invited!
That should be a FACT you can understand.
Now back to the other folks with creative ideas and solutions......

Totally agree with you MJ as I have always found Tim to be a straight forward guy. I've NEVER known him to dance around anything and I'm sick and tired of Holy roller bashing him.
You are also right that his party is an invite only party and if Holy Roller shows up, hopefully someone will show it the door.

I believe Mr. Richmond has done a great job of maintaining the position he was told to hold.
A wind sock comes to mind..
I wish the best for him in his retirement. I have spoken to Mr. Richmond many time in the last 10+ years and I believe his heart and soul where into what he brought to the City of Burlingame.
The reality of filling his position was a "Big Flop".
The candidate offered the position quickly saw the politics.
The candidate wanted to be compensated for compromising professional ethics.
Mr. Richmond, I believe has had enough of this and just wants to leave the drama behind.
I never made a point of bashing Tim Richmond.
I only shared my information with this web site.
